Welcome to Eczema Dad, the Information Hub for Parents Dealing With Childhood Eczema.
Our daughter developed eczema when she was 2 months old. By 7 months, she was covered in dry, red, itchy skin patches from head to toe, with blisters in multiple areas. We tried every eczema cream, including ones prescribed by her doctor at the time, with little success.
Feeling hopeless, I spent months doing my own research and finally convinced my wife to give holistic eczema treatment a try. It was a long road to recovery but after a year, almost all of our daughter’s eczema was gone. She was able to sleep better and be active throughout the day uninterrupted. And most importantly, she is now a lot happier.
I created the Eczema Dad website to share the information we gathered as well as our personal experience with other parents of children who are suffering from eczema.
Have We Been Asking the Right Questions About Eczema?
What if eczema is more than just a skin condition?
Can eczema really develop “out of nowhere”?
Is there more to eczema treatment than simply symptom managements?
The key to recovering from severe eczema is to heal the body naturally from within. Restoring the gut microbiome, detoxification, and maintaining an anti-inflammatory diet can yield far better results than any eczema cream.
What Is Eczema?
Most online definitions of eczema (also referred to as atopic dermatitis) simply describe the symptoms of eczema (dry, itchy skin, red patches, etc.). In order to effectively combat eczema, we must first understand the mechanisms that lead to eczema.
What Causes Eczema?
It is important to distinguish between causes and triggers for eczema. For example, a change in weather may trigger an eczema flare-up. But it doesn’t cause eczema. Otherwise, all of us will be walking around with this skin disease. On the other hand, an overactive immune system may be a cause of eczema, because it makes your body react excessively to harmless triggers such as a weather change.
How to Heal from Eczema?
I use the word “heal” here instead of “treat” for a couple reasons. First of all, although eczema is a skin disease, the causes of eczema lie within the body. Therefore, treating only the skin symptoms will not solve the eczema problem in the long run. Secondly, I’m not a doctor and as a result, I cannot give medical advice to treat anything. The holistic approach which has helped our daughter tremendously includes restoring gut health, diet improvements, detoxing, and symptom management using primarily natural products.
